A wavy spaceframe lamp
I’ve always been intrigued by repeating geometric structures. As you look at them in different angles, certain patterns are revealed or obscured. Interestingly, this complexity is in contrast to the simple construction of these lamps. This lamp, as well as the other spaceframes I’ve made are based on a grid of half-octadedrons, also known as pyramid shapes. In this lamp it was possible to add a curve to make the frame look a little more organic.
An easy hallway light
My appartment has a hallway that isn’t particularly well lit, so it was obvious that I wanted to set up a lamp in the hallway. As an added challenge I didn’t want to put any permanent marks into the wall, as my landlord requires them to be fixed to original state again when I leave the appartment. Luckily, I have a set of heating pipes that I can use to mount the lamp, so I designed a custom fitting around the pipes, and built a connector, to which a spiral lamp is attached.
A second spaceframe lamp
This is the second spaceframe lamp I’ve designed and built. The spaceframe was made from brass rod, 3 millimeter through-hole leds, and 3d printed materials. The base and the arm were made from granite, stainless steel tubing, and 3d printed connecting pieces.
The arm is now made from stainless steel tube, and contains 3d printed ball joints that are surprisingly strong for 3d printed components.
The second lamp solved 2 issues I’ve had with the first lamp, the leds emit a warmer color, making the lamp more suitable for a home environment.

A spaceframe lamp
The first spaceframe lamp that I made was constructed from solid copper wire, 3mm through hole leds and custom 3d printed connector pieces and electronic housing.
I’ve put particular effort in ensuring that the connector pieces of the lamp where designed correctly. It was imperative that they accept the 3mm leds and copper wire, and make a reliable connection. This was my first serious design project, where I conceptualized the full design, while making a pleasing looking final-product.
